Andrea Mayr-Stalder is the founder of Turtle Stitch https://www.turtlestitch.org/, a tool and community for creative programming. The project is open source and is used in schools and workshops around the world to give children and young people a creative approach to computer science and design.

Using the graphical programming language Snap!, users can create patterns that are embroidered by embroidery machines, combining programming logic and textile production. In the summer of 2025, TurtleStitch10, a conference to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the publication, took place in the Netherlands.

Turtle Stitch promotes interdisciplinary learning by combining technical, artistic and craft aspects and providing a platform for the exchange of designs and codes.
