Aluminum in coffee
Franz Jirsa
Aluminum is the most common metal in the earth's crust, yet it has no known benefits for living organisms. On the contrary, it is associated with a number of diseases.
However, much about its absorption and distribution in the body is not yet fully understood. It enters food through the soil and water as well as through processing, packaging or cooking utensils.
Particularly high levels of aluminum can be found in baked goods, sweets, cocoa, tea, spices and foods produced with aluminum-containing additives or stored in aluminum packaging.
A small study by us shows the different levels of dissolved aluminum in coffee and, above all, the influence of the brewing method used on the aluminum content in the finished beverage.
